Ash Neukamm’s ceramic work addresses her domestic experiences with family, community, and self. Using a dark brown clay, she constructs simple circular forms that fulfill their functions in non-normative ways.
She is interested in finding variation in repetition and in adjusting the size and weight of her work, while also observing how these changes shift the ways in which we interact with these vessels. She pushes the clay to its material limits, testing the edge of functionality while looking for the spot where engagement intersects with use.
Ash has spent the last 7 years studying, making pots, teaching, and living in Columbus, OH. She currently works as the Assistant Editor of Publications & Online Content at the American Ceramic Society.
